FAQ

Q:How long will the walk take to complete?
A:I expect to reach Maine by the end of October or early November 2012.

Q:What route are you taking?
A:I’m not sticking to any particular route. So far it’s a combination of getting lost and being adventurous. I can say I’ll be passing through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and finally Maine.

Q:Where will you stay?
A:It will be a combination of CouchSurfing, camping, and staying with friends.

Q:Why did you start in May?
A:I had some music projects I needed to finish wrapping up and I needed time to save more money. I also thought it would be a good time because it’s not summer yet and I thought I would reach the east coast before the snow came. That doesn’t seem likely though.

Q:What does it cost to do something like this?
A: I estimated it would cast around $2500 to $3000. I started with money I had saved from working, crowd-funding and donations from people I know. If you’d like to make a contribution to help me out along the way it’s much appreciated. Just click the PayPal donate button and write me a message letting me know what it’s for otherwise I’ll assume it’s a donation for St.Jude.

Q:What kind of equipment are you taking?
A:I started out with a change of clothes, laptop, food and toiletries. As I’ve gotten further along I’ve modified that. Now I have more camping gear with me and I recently purchased a bike trailer/stroller which makes it easier to carry more food and water.

Q:How will you keep from getting bored?
A:I’ve been taking a lot of pictures and blogging. I keep myself entertained by thinking. There is an awful lot rattling around in that skull of mine. So far I’ve been doing alright. I have an iPod with me but sometimes I’ll go long periods without using it just to see if I can manage to drive myself crazy.

Q:Aren’t you scared of something bad happening to you?
A:Nobody wants anything bad to happen to them. Do they? I make an effort to stay safe. Not just for my sake but that of my friends and family. I’m sure I’ve given them enough to worry about already. Besides there is no point in worrying. One just needs to be ready for the unexpected.

Q:Why are you doing this?
A:I’ve been volunteering with children who have serious illnesses for about 5 years now and sometimes after a while I wouldn't see some of the children anymore. I wanted to do something that would hopefully make a difference in a young person’s life and give them a second chance at life so they could experience everything it has to offer. I don’t want to see children go before their time.
